Project for The Design of the Above-Ground Public Space of the University Square
The main idea that stood behind the design of the University Square was to create a continuous pavement that brings peace and organises in the area. The pavement made of light gray basalt stones has different orientations to mark the various characters of the plaza. Thus, the sidewalks have been paved with stones arranged in ortogonal arrangement, expressing an orderly movement of people and in the central area of the plaza the stones are disposed in a random arrangement, thus showing the endless possibilities of trails and activities.
In the center of the square a main space for various activities and performances was created. This space opens to the emblematic statues of the square and on the opposite side is bordered by an artificial hill abundantly planted that can be used as a grade for the performances that are held in the center of the plaza.
