Project for a Performing Arts Center
The building of the Performing Arts Center is located in the southern area of Retiro Park (Madrid, Spain). This area presents difficulties in terms of pedestrian access to the park due to the big difference in elevation between the street and the park. The construction of the Performing Arts Center involves new connections between the park and the city. This connections are thematic routes that are due to enhance the area.
The Performing Arts Center project is based on the concept of “growing architecture”; the building grows virtually, expanding through the trees of the park. The architecture of the building seeks to integrate with the landscape, connecting the interior with the exterior, a space as comfortable as one shaded by trees.
The intelligent glass facade of the buiding has some tubes attached to the glass. This tubes are arranged according to the cardinal points in order to shade the facade during summer. The tubes also ensure the building's ventilation, and at night they turn into luminous elements that give the building a unique appearance.
